Again inspired by Grandpa Kim's life chest, Josh and Bernie chase another treasure—this time in Africa. Armed with a strange puzzle drawing, a painted plate, and a diary, the cousins learn of a caved-in mineshaft filled with sacred diamonds. Aided by new friends from a South African safari camp, the treasure hunters race across the continent in search of seven chests, each hiding a piece of the diamond map that, when put together, pinpoint the mineshaft's exact location. Close behind them, however, are murderous thieves eager to seize the diamonds from their rightful owners.

The diamond map was created by Erasto, a South African who discovered the sacred diamonds as a child worker in the 1910s. In his last days, Erasto enlisted helpers to hide the map pieces from his enemies, hoping that one day the diamonds would be used to benefit the people of Africa.
